William Shatner. You'll either know him from Trek, Boston Legal, his numerous z grade flicks post Trek our his outrageous 'musical' endeavors. We started with a small, intimate Q&A in the Wintergarden for about 20 min with Shat, his lovely wife and with Mike Hosking guiding proceedings. The audience had a chance to ask a dozen or so questions with yours truly getting to ask the last one, without completely making a dick of myself.
Then it was upstairs, a small break and onto the show proper.
Now, to be perfectly clear, what ever you may think of Mike Hosking personally he is a damn good interviewer so why some retards in the audience booed him is beyond me. This is why Aucklanders are regarded as wankers. The boys were on stage for about 3 hours with a 20 minute brake. If you have read any of his books, a lot of the banter would have been familiar but that didn't matter as it was coming from the man direct. Hosking asked the questions and just let him answer without butting in like the talking heads on morning tv would have. If I still have the same speed of whit as The Man when I am 80 I will be more than happy. Finished with a standing ovation. There could have been nothing less.

To make this really clear to all the fucktards out there:.........

THIS IS THE MOST PRO-MILITARY, PRO-USA MOVIE SINCE POSSIBLY BLACK HAWK DOWN

If you want action, this serves it up in mega-buckets. Probably apart from the first 15 minutes when they set up the characters, this is probably the most intense experience that you will have in a theater this year (unless it's in the back row with your honey).

They treat the Marines as human beings, there is no 'angst'. They have a job to do and they do it as only members of the USMC could.

Aaron Eckhart has been one of my favorite actors since seeing him in Thank You For Smoking. Here he is a chisel jawed Staff bulked up and in one of the many great scenes in the movie does what one of his comrades describes as a John Wayne moment.

Pretty much sums this up.

The Cook loves action movies but hates the modern war movies due to the fact they are "too real", but even she gave this 2 thumbs up.

How Hollywood, the great liberal bastion, could even let this move be made is a great shock in it self but to have there home city wiped out [spoilers] just to be save the be God's USMC is beyond me.

See it, you'll either hate it or love it.

A mobile gunshop that sports massive firepower is in Hawke's Bay this weekend.

The Isuzu eight-wheeler carries a modified shipping container that has been turned into an impressive armoury. The huge vehicle is set to arrive at the big Hunt and Fish Expo being staged at the Pettigrew Green Arena this weekend.

"It's the third-biggest gun shop in the country," Gun City's Ferg Turnbull said.

"And we can take it anywhere."

Mr Turnbull, the manager of the Christchurch branch of the Gun City franchise where the "tuck shop" was built, said it had assumed the title of "Big Red".

"It's got the works - air conditioning, carpet through it ... it really is an amazing piece of work."

Gun City's owner and managing director David Tipple saw the potential in creating a rolling shop which could be sent to shows, expos and displays from Bluff to Kaitaia.

It is presently in Auckland.

"You can go to all the shows and shoots and turn up at a site and not have to worry about putting up tents and putting down flooring," Mr Turnbull said. "It is all enclosed and ready to go."

Containing about 450 firearms, it is also very, very secure.

"Dealing with firearms you have to be so security conscious of course," he said.

"We meet all the police requirements - and more."

With this weekend's expo focusing on the outdoors there will be a big emphasis on duck shooting, with the season set to kick off in May.

"We'll be running a big range of decoys - some basic and some very different," Mr Turnbull said.

The range of shotguns will also be focused upon - but there was plenty more for firearms enthusiasts to look at ... and probably drool over.

Among the line-up of firearms will be a unique 50 calibre rifle which is valued at $15,000 and always gets plenty of attention.

As does a $30,000 under and over shotgun.

"Part of it is selling and part of it is show," Mr Turnbull said.

The mobile gun shop also features everything from standard rifles and shotguns through to BB guns, air rifles and even clay shooting throwers.

"Yeah, we can get a bit in there."

Many Americans have, for example, been persuaded that they should question President Obama's place of birth and religion. Others have been led to conclude that he is a Marxist bent on fundamentally transforming their freedoms and way of life.

This continuous referring to the Tea Party as 'anti-government' is absurd. As stated at Wikipedia:

It endorses reduced government spending,^[9]^[10] lower taxes,^[10] reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit,^[9] and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.^[11]

Where does it say anywhere that it is anti-government. Also as far as "right-wing television shock-jocks", give me a freaking break. The writer has obviously never heard the hate speech coming out of the mouths of MSNBC 'hosts' Keith Olbermann & Chris Matthews who have made career out of spitting venon and hate at anything and anyone who disagrees with the Dems or Obamby. I remember being home from Primary School in the 70's with a bad cold and my mum knowing even then how much of a sci-fi nut I was let me watch a movie on the old Philips K9 ('member them??) called Forbidden Planet. Yes this was the grand old days when TVNZ had afternoon movies and all I can remember is that I thought this movie was soooooo cool and it scared the living daylights out of me.

Move forward a couple of decades and this really weird movie involving a plane disaster and a host of legendary 'serious' actors appears and there is the same lead from this 1950 sci-fi classic playing a doctor but..........he is playing it 'serious' and blow me it is bloody hilarious.
Leslie Nielsen is probably one of the few actors who could do this and by all accounts he was an absolute horror for gags when the camera's were not rolling.

If you have never seen the original Police Squad series, which was the basis of the Naked Gun movies, rent it, buy it or ~~steal~~ just get it as it is one of the best written, short format comedy shows ever.

Missile??? Launched Off California. Pentagon Can't Explain!!!

The Pentagon Tuesday said it was trying to determine if a missile was launched Monday off the coast of Southern California and who might have launched it.

Spokesmen for the Navy, Air Force, Defense Department and North American Aerospace Defense Command said they were looking into a video posted on the CBS News website that appears to show a rocket or some other object shooting up into the sky and leaving a large contrail over the Pacific Ocean.

The video was shot by a CBS affiliate KCBS' helicopter, the station said Tuesday.

"Nobody within the Department of Defense that we've reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from," Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said. "So far, we've come up empty with any explanation."

Lapan said officials are talking to the Air Force, Navy and NORAD as well as civilian authorities who control and monitor air space.

"Right now, all indications are that there was not (Department of Defense) involvement in this," Lapan said, adding that some object might have been launched by a private company.

"It's spectacular… It takes people's breath away," said Ellsworth, calling the projectile, "a big missile".

Officials had no information to make them suspect that the action was taken by any U.S. adversary.

"At this point, until we know more information about what it may have been, there is not alarm," Lapan said. "But that could change depending on what we find out."

We all know that Hillary Clinton came close to winning the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2008. She wasn't successful, but some people clearly haven't forgotten about what could have been.

The secretary of state joined New Zealand Prime Minister John Phillip Key and New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray Stuart McCully for remarks Thursday at Wellington's Parliament Theatrette, and the prime minister made a little slip-up.

"And we, in a purely bilateral basis, have concerns about the fact that Australia" has a free-trade agreement, began Key. "They’re a very important part of our market in New Zealand, so we see Trans-Pacific Partnership as a very important item to be completed if at all possible. So, President Clinton ..."

So now we have a union that supposedly represents 80 odd 'actors' scuttling a BILLION dollar million, yes 500 mil budget PLUS all of the money coming into NZ.
DPF over at Kiwiblog is telling people off for calling Helen Kelly a cow and a bitch. Fair enough. So will this BITCH be going down to Matamata and explaining to the good folk why 'Hobbiton' will not exist, front up to all the technicians who would have had months of guaranteed employment (oh that's right, Sir Richard Taylor incited a mob of 1500 to march on a union meeting and the poor little fuckers ran away), explain to the thousand of fans, many who would gladly appear as a background extra for free.
All of the 'actors' behind this disgrace should be named and blacklisted. They will probably be regarded as difficult to work with now anyway.

And don't mention the teachers strike, support from the students union - WTF these little pricks are heading for a career in the Liarbour Party, and a swing to the left in the Auck elections, and that biggest tit sucker of all The Waitangi Tribunal saying we should be speaking Maori in gummint to preserve the language. Saw the tail end of an interview with Angelina Jolie in Pakistan coming out against the book burning by patriotic US Pastor Terry Jones.

Coming from Whangarei, I have had to much stick about moving to / living in Auckland, but for the last month I have had much pride in ringing up aunties and cousins and just saying how fracking well our beloved North Auckland is doing in the ITM Cup. France: Attacked for eating on Ramadan

He was eating breakfast on the terrace of a restaurant in the center of Lyon on the weekend of August 15th, when three youth jumped him because he didn't observe the fast of Ramadan. The father of the Senegalese family from Vénissieux was hit on the head with a glass bottle, and then beaten with a chair. Rushed to the hospital with a fracture to the back of his head, the victim was operated on. The attack was caught on CCTV, but the images are of poor quality and it is impossible to identify the attackers. The Lyon prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation. According to our sources, the manager of the kebab (restaurant), fearing reprisals, wants to testify anonymously.

Three days later, a young Jewish woman lodged a complaint for being assaulted in a supermarket in Toulouse. The victim said she was taken to task for buying food during the fast. The young woman argued that she was Jewish, which just made her attackers angrier. They called her a 'dirty Jew', hit her on the head, and roughly pushed her down. A guard witnesses the events, without intervening. Questioned by the investigators about his passivity, the man explained that he observed Ramadan and hurried to leave in order to eat after sunset.

A federal judge in San Francisco decided today that gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry, striking down Proposition 8, the voter approved ballot measure that banned same-sex unions.

U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker said Proposition 8, passed by voters in November 2008, violated the federal constitutional rights of gays and lesbians to marry the partners of their choice. His ruling is expected to be appealed to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and then up to the U.S. Supreme Court.

So a judge can now decide what is law when the voters did not want this.

NZ Soldier KIA Named

The New Zealand soldier killed in Afghanistan overnight was a decorated officer who had been in the army for five years.
Lieutenant Timothy Andrew O'Donnell, 28, died and two of his fellow soldiers were injured when their patrol was ambushed in the province of Bamyan. A local interpreter with the patrol was also injured during the attack.

Who was Lieutenant Timothy Andrew O'Donnell?

Lt O'Donnell was part of the guard of honor at Sir Edmund Hillary's funeral.
He had also served as part of the peace keeping force in Timor Leste where he was awarded The New Zealand Distinguished Service Decoration for rescuing some 600 people from an ambush druing a political rally. Read the citation here.
Lt O'Donnell - New Zealand's first combat casualty in Afghanistan - was part of the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team and was based in Bamyan town in Bamyan Province.

"They still require a lot of work," he said.
"For police - they're not like the police back home. They don't go around really arresting people, they're basically security guards. But it's our job to build up their capacity and develop them so one day when we pull out, they'll be capable of taking over."

On the eve of expected city approval of a mosque and Islamic center two blocks from Ground Zero, backers of the project are pledging to include a memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks as part of an effort to allay opponents’ complaints that the mosque’s location is insensitive.

“We’ve heard and felt their pain, and we’re extending ourselves,” said Daisy Khan, a partner in the building and the wife of the cleric leading the effort. “We want to repair the breach and be at the front and center to start the healing.”
Offering the first glimpse into how the developers of the $100 million project hope to blunt the persistent criticism, Ms. Khan said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the board that runs the center will include members of other religions “to protect the interests of the center and to ensure the center has the highest standards of transparency.” She also said the developers will explore including an interfaith chapel as part of the final plans.
“The universal values of all religions will be the underpinning of our center,” said Ms. Khan, executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement. “It will all happen in an atmosphere of interfaith collaboration.”
Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League said Ms. Khan’s statements on transparency, inclusiveness and healing don’t address the central point of his group’s opposition: that the location of the center is insensitive to the families of the Sept. 11 victims. “If you want to heal us, don’t do it in our cemetery,” he said. “We are joining in with families who are not saying don’t do it at all, but saying don’t do it here.”

Ms. Khan said that none of the money has been raised yet for the center. She wouldn’t rule out accepting foreign funding, but said the group would be careful about who it took money from.

She said that was part of the reason for the plan to include members of other faiths on the board, as well as a pledge to work closely with the Charities Bureau of the state attorney general’s office and abide by “highest standards set forth by the Treasury Department,” which investigates links between charities and terror groups.
Ms. Khan said she and her husband are not deaf to the controversy but remain steadfast in their belief that the center has the right to exist in Lower Manhattan and will serve as the nucleus for improved relations between Muslim New Yorkers and their neighbors. “We have learned from other religions that this is the path to the Americanization of a religion,” Ms. Khan said. “Islam is an American religion now—it has to create institutions that intersect with its own community and the broader community that surrounds it.”

How Our Views Change With Wisdom

Now I have to admit I have not always had a huge interest in politics, in fact up until 5 or 6 years ago I would almost call myself politically neutral. I had always voted National, not because of allegiance but because when I was old enough I asked my folks who they voted for and went with their pick.

I remember Rob Muldoon acting like an autocratic dictator, I remember much better David McPhail's absolutely brilliant impersonations of him ( the younger generation don't know what they are missing, I wonder if someday they will repeat 'A Week Of It' or classic McPhail and Gadsby???), David Lange deliver a speech like no one else and the Unions were complete and utter arseholes.

What am I getting at? Well, back in the 00's there was this compelling drama on our screens called The West Wing. It portrayed the day to day going's on of a Democratic led White House, staffed by idealistic young people who only wanted the best for the American people and their country. They were up against these nasty, conniving and downright awful people called Republicans, who were trying to stall or completely stop any policies or laws that the wonderful people in the WH were trying to implement.
"Wow" I thought, is this why America is so great, they have people who care running it, was Bill Clinton's 'sexual relations' just a beat up by those nasty Republicans….and I thought Ronald Reagan was sooooo cool.

Then Helen Clark was re-elected as PM in the '05 elections. Up until then I really thought that National had a chance. They had Don Brash giving his famous Orewa speech and the brilliantly conceived 'Iwi - Kiwi' billboards. But of course once the Left got into power they started really implementing their 'plan for the future'. They had disgusting creatures such as Sue Bradford telling us how to raise our families, they looked down on us and treated us like children. This is when I started getting really pissed off. Surely there must be a way to find an antidote to the propaganda being shoved down our throats, of course there was…..Google.

The first, and probably most well known site I started reading was Kiwiblog. You could actually find out what was REALLY happening to the country and what Labour didn't want you to know. Of course coupled with this was the emergence of what is of what is mistakenly referred to as 'radical Islam'. Sorry but there is only Islam. If you believe what is written in the piece of pig parchment called the Koran (yes in fact I have read it, as well as the writings of Marx and Mao……how else can you understand your enemy unless you go direct to the source) you will find is a book of hate written by a mad man.

So in the past couple of weeks I decided to re-watch The West Wing and oh how times have changed. Now I see a group of 'holier than thou' Socialists who want to impose their narrow minded views on a unsuspecting populace. What I though was once great writing by Aaron Sorkin is just his leftist vision of Socialist utopia. I swear if I ever meet Rob Lowe walking down the street I will punch him in the face and just let him know that his character is just a bigoted arsehole.

Like the bunch who are really in the WH, this lot are a MORAL VACUUM. Yes they talk about morals but from a leftist point of view which means a Christian viewpoint is not allowed. Republicans and Christians are written as right-wing extremists who should be treated with disdain……sound familiar? The lack of real Christian values world wide is evident and I truly fear my generation will be the last that actually understands what our parents were doing when they used good old discipline.

Should the USA rejoice if and when the Republicans regain power? The simple answer to that is NO.
Much like politics in New Zealand where we have Socialist and Socialist Lite there is really no difference in the policies of either.
If the political landscape in the US is going to change, and for the sake of the world it had better, then the Tea Party must become a political force, a force to be reckoned with.

There is really no hope for us here in New Zealand, or even Australia for that matter but there is a chance for REAL change in America, not the Kenyan's idea of change, but a change that will once again rebuild America into the great Republic that it once was and can truly hold it's head up as the land of the free.

First Female Arab Combat Soldier in IDF is Proud to Serve Israel

Her excitement is accompanied by a new historical precedent, since Elinor is the first Arab female combat soldier in IDF history.

Cpl. Elinor Joseph was born and raised in an integrated neighborhood of Jews and Arabs in Haifa, but attended a school in which all her classmates were Arab. She later moved to Wadi Nisnas, an Arab neighborhood where she currently lives. Despite the fact that she would always wear her father’s IDF dog-tag around her neck from when he served in the Paratrooper’s Unit, she never thought she would enlist. “I wanted to go abroad to study medicine and never come back,” she said. To her father it was clear that she would enlist in the IDF, as most citizens in Israel do. This was something that worried her very much. “I was scared to lose my friends because they objected to it. They told me they wouldn’t speak to me. I was left alone.”

Despite their opposition, she decided to move forward and enlist. She explained her motive: “I decided to go head-to-head, to check who my true friends are, to do something in life that I have never done before. I understood that it was most important to defend my friends, family, and country. I was born here.” At the end of the day, she says she realized it was the right thing to do, “With time, when you do things from the heart, you begin to understand their importance.”

So funny watching clips of bum boy Carter on the news last night trying to evade media. The one that riled me was the Vaseline Kid pushing his way to the front of a customs line to get away from the cameras. Someone should have just punched him, arrogant twat.

Now we have the Village of the Damned Mayoress thinking it is ok to steal from the tax payer.

Christchurch mayoress Jo Nicholls-Parker said it was "perfectly legit to take some perks" such as coffee and muffins because she worked fulltime for the city for free.

Nicholls-Parker yesterday responded to criticism of her role after revelations that she sat in on breakfast meetings with her husband, Mayor Bob Parker, and spent ratepayer money on muffins and coffees. The couple later paid back more than $600.

Nicholls-Parker yesterday defended her role, saying some people had shown "mean-spiritness", although she had generally been well-treated as mayoress.

"I'm working fulltime for this city without getting paid to do that, so I think it's perfectly legit to take some perks, even if it is just a small muffin and coffee."

She said she and Parker ate in the same cafe every morning, and it was a conscious decision to stall her art career to focus on being a fulltime mayoress.

So what exactly does this parasite do for the city?
